EXTRA SAFETY PATROLS

In recent weeks some of our volunteers have been conducting extra mid-week safety patrols on the River Lagan.

This comes after reports that groups of youths have been consuming alcohol near the river’s edge and on one recent occasion one them somersaulted off a bridge and intentionally entered the river. Thankfully the person involved was able to self extract from the river.

Behaviour such as this can be extremely dangerous and lead to serious injury or a fatality and we would ask young people to act in a safe manner around the river.

Yesterday evening some of our team were out in one of our response boats carrying out a safety patrol, engaging with the young people and giving advice on the dangers of the river and how to stay safe.
